Lighting can bring life into a scene, even without the use of textures (they’re the icing on the cake, so to speak!) and this is therefore the reason why it’s one of my favourite parts of the pipeline, along with dynamics. Both apply real-world physics, and are very hard to cheat successfully!
The lighting was optimised for render times; the fairylights and glowing objects were challenges in the scene, and because of this, the lighting is by no means accurate, but rather stylised. Below is some work in progress of the
For pre-production of my final major project, I created an animatic and laid out the colour storyboard appropriately.
Despite the massive amounts of lights, the render times for this scene are very low – reason being, it’s not physically accurate and was also optimised alot- most of the lights don’t affect shadows, some even specular (It’s cheating, sssh!) Rendered using vray.
